Many thanks to British Airways’ High Life magazine for rating Seasonal Cities as one of six top apps for New York recently. You can read the review at http://highlife.ba.com/articles/six-really-useful-apps-for-new-york-city/. BA has also just extended its big worldwide sale, with return flights to NYC from £381.
This weekend it’s going to be hot in New York but the summer is a great time to find good deals at restaurants and hotels. So today we bring you three very different things to do in the Big Apple, from a new breakfast club with yoga to Frida Kahlo and a hidden patio at a restaurant, all lovingly gleaned from the Summer 2015 guide. Happy travels.
SIGHTS – Daybreaker
Back in the day, nightclubs at 7am were full of people who had been out since 7pm the night before. At the roaming Daybreaker breakfast club, you roll out your yoga mat, get stuck into a session, have a juice or smoothie, and then dance your socks off for a couple of hours. The highs here are all 100% natural. Advance online booking is essential. Photos via Sara Wass for Daybreaker.
EVENTS – Frida Kahlo at the New York Botanical Garden
The eyebrows have it! This is an inside and outside look at Kahlo’s love of nature, with an exhibition of her paintings and works on paper inspired by her home garden in Mexico. It also includes a reimagining of her outdoor space at Casa Azul in the Haupt Conservatory, incorporating the celebrated organ pipe cactus fence at her husband’s studio in San Angel.
From 16 May to 1 November.

EAT – Le Jardin Bistro
This is a new Alphabet City neighbourhood star, with perfect cassoulet, escargots and steak frites. The bread is outlandishly good. Upstairs is lofty and bare brick but cosy and there are plenty of tartare options if you’re here for lunch rather than Sunday night supper. Dishes are keenly priced and the house wines (£8 a carafe) a total steal. We recommend it for brunch, too.
Favourite table: when the sun is beaming, avoid downstairs and ask for a seat on the hidden patio upstairs.
