It’s been snowing in Moscow and I am loving this shot of the city. I am also a big fan of this insider review of the metro from the Winter 2014 guide, which is packed with great information.
The Moscow metro
The secret nobody tells you: around New Year, Russians stay home. Leaving you free to whizz round the city unhindered, in rococo glitz, much of it built in the Stalinist glory days. The excess peaks on the brown Koltsovaya (ring) line, at Komsomolskaya, Novoslobodskaya and Belorusskaya. Find more subtle Constructivist architecture at Mayakovskaya and don’t miss the bronze statues at Ploshad Revolutsii. Buy a one-day smart card for £3.
