Good to see that the Team GB swimmers will be heading to Japan for training sessions and acclimatisation in the run-up to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Hopefully they will be able to coordinate a visit with the famous autumn leaves, reviewed in our 2014 guide by writer Danielle Demetriou.

Leaves. There are few words more relevant to autumn in Tokyo than the seasonal admiring of the colourful maple, ginkgo and larch trees. Among the best spots for leaf-gazing are Shinjuku Gyoen (an immaculately kept park), Ueno Park (also home to museums and lotus ponds), and Mount Takao (a beautiful day trip which is 50 minutes by train from Tokyo).
