While the UK awaits the arrival of Hurricane Gonzalo and a lot of stormy weather, the forecast is saying that it is going to be 24C and partly sunny this weekend in Barcelona. These are good conditions for exploring the city’s most famous market, La Boqueria. Our Barcelona writer, Tara Stevens, picked it as one of her top five shopping options for the autumn 2014 guide. http://tarastevens.co.uk/.
Europe’s most dazzling market has been going strong since 1848, when it was rebuilt on the site of an old Carmelitas convent, and autumn sees it at its most resplendent. Check out the piles of wild mushrooms at Llorenç Petrás’ stall – fresh porcini, golden chanterelles, death caps and ‘kings testicles’. Then eat them with eggs and a glass of cava at El Quim de la Boqueria.
Favourite item: Llorenç Petrás’ wild mushroom rub for grilled meats is about £4 for 250g.
