Congratulations to Roger Federer on winning the Shanghai Rolex Masters. If I was sticking around and looking to celebrate in Shanghai, I would head for Jason Atherton’s Commune Social. I met Jason at Pollen Street Social in London and think that he is a very talented and friendly chef. I love this review of his Shanghai outpost from our resident writer there, Amy Fabris-Shi (www.scribesoftheorient.com).
‘Housed in a 1920s British police station, this Modern Med restaurant features a trio of sit-up bars where diners can watch the husband-and-wife chef team create cheerful seasonal gourmet tapas, such as sea urchin and pepper butter ciabatta and beetroot ice cream with smoked chocolate.
Favourite table: they don’t take bookings but you can request a table in the charming red-brick courtyard if the weather permits. Part of the fun is moving seats for the different courses.’
